Wheelchair Tennis Atlanta

Who We Are...
We are a small volunteer committee of current players that saw a need for more visibility and a resource to help new players get started in wheelchair tennis. One of us is a seasoned veteran in the sport while the others are relatively new and have experienced first hand some challenges to getting started. At least one of us attends all of these events, so we can keep others informed of what is going on. We share the common goal of bringing wheelchair tennis to new players and growing the sport in Georgia.
How We Started...
Wheelchair Tennis Atlanta (WTA) was started on Facebook in April of 2013 as a way to utilize social media to communicate with wheelchair users in the Atlanta area about all the available opportunities to play tennis. It also increases awareness of the sport to all wheelchair users and the people that know wheelchair players. It was started as an informational resource. We hope this page will increase that awareness and bring together all the groups that work so hard to make this sport a success!
What We Do...
We post as much information as we can about wheelchair tennis in Atlanta and the surrounding areas. We all speak with prospective players and try to encourage people to try the sport. We have started working on grants through organizations to fund some of our visions for this program. We hope to make this program sustainable to continue beginners clinics annually and possibly purchase some training chairs for new players.
A Special Thanks...
We are a relatively new organization listed under the USTA. The USTA Grassroots Grant has provided our initial funding to conduct some of our clinics. We also would like to thank the USTA Georgia Wheelchair Committee for allowing us to participate and get ideas, Ron Walker for all his input and experience on getting started, Harlon Matthews for his advancement of the sport, and all the volunteers and players that make this such a great sport!
